Il castello di Duino si erge su un promontorio a picco sul mare Adriatico. Le sue origini risalgono alla seconda metà del Trecento quando i signori Duinati decisero di edificare il complesso fortificato su un punto strategico di controllo sul sistema portuale del Timavo e l’area nevralgica della baia di Sistiana dove passava il confine tra Duino e Trieste. Dal 1587 passò all’illustre famiglia della Torre e divenne un importante centro culturale.

Duino Castle stands on a promontory overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Its origins date back to the second half of the fourteenth century when the Duinati family decided to build the fortified complex on a strategic control point over the Timavo port system and the nerve center of the Sistiana bay where the border between Duino and Trieste passed. From 1587 it passed to the illustrious della Torre family and became an important cultural center.
